Crazy red rosewood

On June 12th, a seemingly simple convention brought huge waves to the mahogany market. The convention is called the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, which deals with the Convention on Plant Endangered Species. Redwood raw materials can no longer be bought and sold as before. So what changes will this convention make to the mahogany market? Chinese redwood dealers go up the mountain, demolish the old house, find Southeast Asia to find mahogany, what is the price paid? The resources of redwood are decreasing. When the singer sings, the price of raw materials for redwood doubles. How red is the redwood? "Economic Half-hour" focused on Hongmu investment and went into Guangxi Pingxiang to investigate.

First, Laos red rosewood resources rushed to the price of Chinese dealers to go up the mountain to demolish the house but ask for a wooden

Guangxi Pingxiang is an important gateway for the import of redwoods from Southeast Asia. The imports of rosewood products ranked first in the country for six consecutive years from 2007 to 2012. When the reporter arrived here, at the door of a large and luxuriously decorated furniture store, I saw many cars with foreign license plates. In the conversation with these foreign customers, the reporter learned that they are all a purpose to buy Siamese rosewood. A Liaoning merchant once purchased about 1 million, while another customer from Xianhu, Fujian, told reporters how much they would get if they were red rosewood.

Siamese rosewood, the scientific name of the Dalbergia. Why are so many people eager to buy Siamese rosewood? It turned out that with the scarcity of Siamese rosewood resources, the market price has soared, and this trend is likely to continue to spread, and even repeat the history of the huanghuali surge of 100 times in 2007.

The dealer told us that many big customers are now buying a large number of red rosewood. They pull the goods from Laos and pull one car to sell one car. Some customers call the money without even looking at the goods. The daily shipments are large. So where did these red rosewoods come from?

In Pingxiang's large-scale finished furniture processing factory, the reporter saw two Vietnamese merchants. One of the young men of French descent is Axia, the largest raw material supplier in Vietnam. There are 4,000 tons of mahogany raw materials sold to China each year. However, Axia told us that the redwoods in Vietnam and Laos, especially the red rosewood, are hard to find. Now there are some wood in central and southern Vietnam, and there is no more in the north. Since Chinese customers like old materials, they went to the Laos' houses, and the woods that built the houses were already dry for decades. They didn't need to be dried, so the customers liked them very much, and the price naturally rose. Axia told reporters that he had just sold 50 tons of large cabinets to Hefei bosses in the past two days. Among them, the price of the big materials sold for more than 200,000 tons, and the middle materials sold for more than 100,000. The price of small materials also reached Twelve thousand tons.

Axia said that because the old wood is popular, there is no small customer base. In Laos, the demolition of old houses has become the main source of red rosewood. Some log dealers went to Laos to buy houses and old wood from local people at high prices. And these old woods can also bring lucrative benefits to dealers.

Logs dealer Wei Gang pointed to reporters who just pulled back from Laos and said that these are the small materials left in the development of forests in previous years. Such woods last year were more than 10,000 yuan a ton. However, according to this year's market, you can sell more than 30,000 yuan a ton, that is to say, an increase of 70-80%. Due to the scarcity of redwood, this small material is in short supply, and customers are waiting for several days to pick up the goods. Wei Gang predicts that according to this sales speed, it may be difficult to have this material in the second half of this year.

In order to find more red rosewood, Wei Gang hired 200 or 300 locals in Laos to help him find wood. Every day, 2 or 3 houses were demolished. More than 30 houses have been demolished this year. Seeing the old wood is very popular, the homeowners in Laos are also starting to raise the price. Now the highest price increase is the demolition of materials, which is several times compared with the beginning of the year. Wei Gang told reporters that the price of a house with 11 or 12 pillars in Laos has already been mentioned as 110,000 US dollars. It can be said that it is more expensive than the price of ordinary secondary cities in China.

Wei Bo said that even if the old house is demolished, the red rosewood wood is rare, because only a small part of the village in Laos uses the acid sticks to make the house, most of which are made of other wood. Sometimes a house is demolished with only two red rosewood branches. Wei Gang said that now I don't know how many houses are detachable. Every time he demolishes a house, he takes a photo to commemorate.

Wei Gang pointed to the photo and told reporters that the local Lao people are very willing to let the Chinese wood merchants demolish the house because they can use the money to build a new house. However, Wei Gang recalled the experience of the past few years and was also very impressed. When they went to Laos together, they left only two people when they came back. Because many people were bitten by mosquitoes when they went up the mountain to find wood, they got dengue fever. And the toxins left by some people may not be good for a lifetime, and the disease will occur if the weather is bad.

The red rosewood that was found in Laos for several years, Wei boss hoarded in the warehouse, he told us that although there are hundreds of tons of red rosewood in hand, it will not be affected within one year, but after two years, it is difficult to say It is. In particular, in mid-June this year, the International Convention on Endangered Species (CITES) was implemented. Seven types of timber, such as red rosewood, were listed as endangered species and were restricted from importing. The supply of raw materials was even more scarce. The processing of finished furniture will fall into the predicament of no rice. However, Hongmu has a strong consumer group in China, and the sales volume and price of red rosewood are increasing at a rate of doubling. This contradiction has also puzzled many redwood companies.

Wang Baotian, president of Guangxi Hongmu Furniture Association, told reporters that due to the shortage of materials, large pieces of fine mahogany furniture could not be done at all. To this end, a number of business owners in Guangxi are sitting together to discuss countermeasures, but the conclusion is that raw materials are in short supply. ;

Second, Beijing mahogany furniture market is difficult to raw materials, sitting on the wood, bullish red rosewood is not willing to shoot

Things are rare, and the more expensive, the more profitable. As a result, the mahogany raw material dealers dig into the search for mahogany, do not hesitate to go up the mountain to find trees, demolished houses to find wood, but the redwoods that can be found are still less and less. The growing scarcity of resources naturally affects the operators of the downstream industries, especially those who manufacture mahogany furniture. Subsequently, the reporter launched an investigation in the furniture market in Beijing.

Li Jing, the technical director of Jingmu Baotong Classical Furniture Co., has been producing mahogany furniture for more than ten years. Since June this year, the price of red rosewood furniture produced in the Li Jing factory has been raised by 30%. Li Jing pointed to a yellow case wood and told reporters that this table used to sell more than 60,000, but now it has to sell at least 250,000. Just a month ago, the price of this set of cabinets was between 15 and 180,000 yuan, and it rose by 50% in just one month. The price of the wood used to make the cabinet has increased several times.

Li Jing said that at the beginning of this year, the quality of this material was probably around 150,000 yuan per ton. However, on June 12, after the new content of the Appendix to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora came into effect, the price per ton actually rose. 6 to 8 times, reaching 100 to 1.2 million yuan a ton, Li Jing also heard that the main import of redwood has been closed.

In February of this year, Li Jing acquired more than 80 tons of red rosewood wood for processing at a price of 150,000 tons per ton. But he did not expect that from then on, at the same price, he could not buy the same quality red rosewood. Nowadays, even if it is more than 100,000 yuan per ton than the price that was originally bought, it is difficult for Li Jing to buy a good red rosewood. The previously purchased red rosewood can only last for half a year, which makes Li Jing very worried. Not just Li Jing, there are many manufacturers on the national market who are starting to walk around and look for red rosewood.

Li Jing told reporters that the customs closed the customs, but there are some coffins in the industry, so Li Jing hopes to find people who buy chopped wood, but because of the rapid price increase, many people who have red rosewood in their hands Unwilling to rush to shoot, so the high-grade red rosewood on the market is hard to find.

On this day, in order to find red rosewood materials, Li Jing came to Beijing Dongba timber market. After searching for a long time in the market, Li Jing only found some materials that were not very good. Even so, the price of these woods has tripled. Li Jing pointed to a piece of wood and told reporters that it used to sell 20,000 to 30,000, but it has now risen to 90,800 tons.

Li Jing hopes to find some better-priced products than the better red rosewood. Some timber merchants have also made it clear that they have red rosewood in their hands, but they are not eager to sell. A timber merchant told reporters that there were more than 200 tons of goods in his warehouse in 2010, but he did not even think about selling it.

Looking for a long time in the market, Li Jing finally found a more desirable red rosewood in a store. Li Jing said that this kind of wood can be used as a single-board case or panel. It is estimated that it will sell 2 million tons if it is ton.

The seller said that two or three years ago he received a batch of high-grade red rosewood at a price of about 100,000 yuan a ton. Until now, he still buys red rosewood at a high price in the market, and is not eager to take the wood in his hand. He feels that this round of the market is still far from rising to a high point.

For Li Jing, although he is very satisfied with the quality of the wood, but the price makes him unbearable, and wants to discuss with the seller.

Due to the strong wait-and-see atmosphere in the timber market, people with raw materials are bullish on red rosewood, and they are unwilling to take shots. Li Jing has to go to more places to continue to search for redwood raw materials. Li Jing told reporters that it is possible to go to the South to look at it in a few days.

Third, the price of mahogany furniture is rising, and the shortage of raw materials affects the development of the industry.

The high price of the mahogany market is hard to find, and this situation is beginning to appear in the mahogany furniture market. The reporter then went to the Hongmu Street in Liuliqiao, Beijing. Since the end of June, most mahogany furniture stores have received price adjustment notices from manufacturers. A seller told reporters that they received the price adjustment notice in June and started to implement it on July 1. The price of all projects rose by 20%, and the reason was that raw materials rose. The price of a set of red rosewood furniture rose from 600,000 to 700,000.

Mahogany furniture has raised prices. But the seller told us that because it was the wood that was bought in the past, the current increase in furniture is not as high as that of wood, which is about 50%.

The boss pointed to a set of sofas, since June, the price of this set of sofas is basically a week, from 160,000 yuan to 220,000 yuan. He predicted that manufacturers will continue to issue notices of price adjustments, which means that prices will gradually go up. According to the increase of raw materials, the reasonable price of this set of sofas should be more than 300,000.

In addition, many furniture manufacturers have said that if the price of raw materials is to be digested, the price of furniture will undergo a series of adjustments.

Guan Yi is the chairman of Taihe Muzuo. When the reporter saw him, he was in his furniture store and looked very leisurely. Guan Yi has been selling mahogany furniture for more than 10 years. He told reporters that many of the furniture he has placed in his store are made of wood accumulated a few years ago. If you follow the current price of wood, the cost increase is not a star and a half. Including the tariff increase of materials, labor costs and freight increases, the final cost of finished products will increase by about 50%.

Guan Yi pointed to a painting in the store and told reporters that a large painting like this would take 15 tons and grow a rosewood of about a thousand years. The raw materials for this painting were purchased before 2006. The price was placed today, and Guan Yi said with a smile that it was absolutely impossible to buy. He told reporters that the price at that time was still hundreds of thousands of tons, but now the good material has risen to the height of 1.5 million to 2 million tons.

Guan Yi believes that the increasing shortage of high-end mahogany wood resources will inevitably lead to an increase in the price of the wood market, and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora has only accelerated the price increase. Although Guan Yi was psychologically prepared for the price of wood, he also bought wood, but the current market is still somewhat worrying. Because traditional mahogany furniture companies can maintain a certain amount of inventory even if they have a certain amount of inventory, from the perspective of long-term development of the company, once the normal production and operation activities cannot be maintained, problems will arise, and Guan Yi is expected to be the fastest. These problems will show up in a few months.

The current timber production maintains normal production for up to one year. Guan Yi admits that he has no better way, but has to wait for the market to reflect. Guan Yi compares the current mahogany market to “a hard-to-see, price-to-gold ratio.” In order to catch up with the price increase of mahogany, manufacturers are desperately hoarding materials, and customers are also eager to hear the news. The market is highly sought after, eventually leading to Hot money has poured into the mahogany market.

In the timber yard of Tongzhou District, where Guan Yi is located, high-priced wood such as huanghuali wood, red sandalwood, and red rosewood is locked in a small house. When you open the door, you can smell a strong Wood fragrance. Guan Yi told reporters that in the early 1990s, as long as tens of thousands of dollars of sandalwood rosewood, now more than 1 million, and Hainan huanghuali in the 1990s, the price of only 10 yuan at that time, but now has become the last 7 invaluable treasures.

Half an hour observation: cold thinking in the mahogany market

From ancient times to today, hardwood furniture made of high-grade wood such as mahogany is always a luxury. For collectors, it may have room for added value, and for ordinary consumers with limited spending power, it is more to appreciate the craftsmanship of traditional Chinese furniture and the cultural charm. Therefore, this market needs rational consumption, rather than blindly chasing up and down. Whether it is a collection or a consumption, it is the sincerity to do what it takes. Of course, as a huge market, we also need to see the risk of cyclical fluctuations in its value. The tragic plunging in 2008, the waist-style hawking also made some people unforgettable. Therefore, in the expectation of rising prices of raw materials, real rational investors will pay more attention to the risks of its market outlook.
